Our Story

Hi!

Our story began when we met as Occupational Therapists (OTs) working in the same school district in Massachusetts. We worked in different schools but when we participated in professional development together we found that we got excited about the same topics, had similar takeaways, and were aligned in our therapeutic approaches.

When the COVID pandemic began and school-based services were provided remotely, we spent more time directly with our students’ parents than ever before. We found that families were really looking for help with understanding and supporting their child’s needs at home.  Additionally, with a new-found appreciation for self-care during this time of change, parents were becoming increasingly aware that they needed direct support for themselves as they worked to help their children.

In response, we began putting more emphasis on coaching the parents of children we were working with, and we noticed the large positive impact this type of support had on their families’ everyday lives.  We wanted to help even more families, so we started offering our services to family and friends…and thus began The OT Parent Coaches!

Hi! I’m Carrie. Before discovering the field of Occupational Therapy, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and worked at a market research consulting firm. After switching gears and getting a Masters Degree in OT, I worked as a school-based OT for 17 years, during which I supported children ages 3-18 with a large range of developmental profiles. I live near Boston, Massachusetts, with my husband, two teenage sons, and our adorable adopted dog.

On a personal level, my interests include listening to podcasts and music, taking walks, exploring new places, and collecting heart-shaped rocks!
